About Zonta

Zonta International is a worldwide service organization of executives in business and the professions working together to advance the status of women. Founded in 1919 in Buffalo, New York, USA, Zonta takes its name from the Lakota-Sioux Native American word meaning "honest and trustworthy". Zontians volunteer their time, talents and energy to local and international service projects designed to advance the status of women. Individual Zonta clubs extend membership invitations to local leaders in business and the professions.

The Zonta Club of Melbourne Area was chartered on December 1, 1983. Melbourne's Zontians opened their ears and hearts to the needs of the community. This caring attitude is reflected in its many service projects. Currently 20+ members are committed to the Club and attend  meetings monthly to coordinate community projects and fundraising activities.

The Zonta Club of Melbourne and Zonta International is focused on advancing the status of women globally, nationally and locally.

FOZ (Friends of Zonta)

FOZ is a Capital Campaign to raise our Community Fund Investment from $25,000 to $75,000 so that the YWPA scholarship, named in honor of Monica Jean Campbell (a young girl who attended Melbourne High School and was killed by her boyfriend) can be granted regardless of the success of our fundraising efforts from year to year.  Getting the level of the investment to $75,000 will allow that the scholarship will be awarded forever, even if the Zonta Club of Melbourne ceases to exist.
